Overtime Categories can be helpful to set up rules of how an employee is compensated for that category, and can also be useful for the Overtime Report.
- Go to Menu > Organization Setup > Overtime
- Click New Overtime Category
- Overtime Category Name (e.g. General, Training, Court, Cover Shift, etc.)
- Activity Entry (Required, Optional, Hidden)
- Compensation Rule
- Employee Election - selects the default accrual account set up under edit Employees
- Choose Each Time - allows employees to select each time they select this category
- Specified - forces this overtime to use a specific account - selected below
- Specified Account: Overtime
- Typically this is set to Specified and Overtime
- Enter a Description (optional)
- Select Holiday Exempt if this overtime should not accrue extra hours on a holiday:
- When calculating the Working on a Holiday credit, generally hours worked as overtime on a holiday are included, so those hours also earn the extra ½ hour per hour benefit. If “Holiday Exempt” is checked on an overtime category, overtime worked with this category does not earn this extra ½ hour per hour.
- Select Field Training
- This option allows FTOs to add an Overtime Request with this category. It gives them 1 hour of overtime. Typically departments will use this to give one hour of Comp Time for each day an FTO is training another officer. It does not show up on the schedule view, but displays in the Time Card
- Select Use for Open Shift Pools
- Only one Overtime Category can be set for Use for Open Shift Pools. This is the default category for all Open Shifts
- Click Save
